              Men in Fashion

Celebrities are the fashion icons for mens fashion, it can seem fashion is aimed more at women yet men are not seen to follow catwalks, trends or head designers they take great interest in music, film and celebrities.

These categories sell fashion and products to men as a whole, in 1995 TV programme James Bond played by Pierce Brosnan. Pierce was filmed with a full chest and stomach of hair, which was common in the 1990's by most men it was seen as masculine and hunk.

In 2013 Daniel Craig starred as James Bond, the actor was completely hairless as times change so does the desire to look like the ideal manly man was so remove chest hair and get muscly.

Kanye West style evolution

In 2007 Kanye west was a huge global hip hop mega star who's fashion has been idolised by many, in 2009 he announced his intention to master the fashion world.

He furthered his own style ambitions, into Paris Fashion week to praise the Givenchy collection. In fall 2012 he produced his own ready to wear collection, now he is married to Kim Kardashion, who is sisters with Estee Lauder new face Kendell Jenner who has been shot on the front cover of Elle, Vogue and Grazia and modelled for Marc Jacobs, Givenchy and Chanel who is a huge icon at the moment in the fashion industry.

He has been a huge fashion inspiration to Kim and has produced a wardrobe for his new wife.

David Beckham has been seen in many Yves Saint Laurent designer wear.

His wife Victoria Beckham has realised her own collection in Dover Street and Knightsbridge, London. Big fans of the fashion Industry Both David and Victoria Beckham attend the 'Charles James: Beyond Fashion Event' costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum in 2014.

His son Romeo Beckham is the New campaign advertisement for Luxury designer Burberry.

Political Fashion

In the 1980s Fur became a high hit within fashion,

  • Fur coats
  • Foxes coats
  • Fur Liscious
  • Beautiful Foxes
  • Fur Fashion
  • Fur Decadent
  • Blue Foxes
  • Foxes Fur

In 1997, the amazing supermodel Naomi Campbell stated she'd "rather go naked than wear fur" in a PeTA campaign. The PeTA boosted her profile because of this including Stella McCartney, Pamela Anderson and Natalie Portman all of who refuse to be around animal skin or pelts.

Campbell is never one to shy away, in 2009 was later labelled as a traitor by PeTA. The model posed for the fur designer Dennis Basso's Autumn/Winter collection 2009-10 advertising campaign. She later took the run way wearing fur and posed for many of campaigns and editorials wearing fur.

The risk she took had to come with an explanation she stated that she has a turnover and the group went too far with their protest it got to aggressive for her career against industry such as US vogue's Anna Wintour/Karl Lagerfield.

Leather is another, although a lot of it is sold within the luxury market, unnatural furs such as tigers, leopards and zebra skin are no longer sufficient and designers will no longer use it. In the UK, they are no fur farms or large manufacturers that specialise in animal fur, however is a big success in Europe and other countries worldwide.

This year Prada have focused their Autumn/Winter lines on Faux fox fur stole which has been looked into detail by the Anti fur Lobby for testing.

Exotic Break Through

Vogue Front Cover

One model per generation so all names are established as fashion mirror in which women see themselves reflected.
Only one black figure in a westernised wig, over vogue editions in the march issue of 1966 Donyale Luna was the first American black model on british vogue, the first black women actress to be seen in the spot light.

"A new heavenly body who, because of her striking singularity, promises to remain on a high for many a season. Donyale Luna, as she calls herself, is unquestionably the hottest model in Europe at the moment"

The cover was shot by David Bailey who was contracted as a fashion photographer for British Vogue magazine in the 1960's.  Luna is such an inspiration to the fashion industry and the world as a model, she inspired other black women who are aspiring to appear in the production. Doors opened to well know models such as Naomi Sims, Iman and Naomi Campbell for the younger generation.

Beyonce was first on the cover of American Vogue magazine in 2009. A rare African American Beyonce has been on more magazine covers than any other black female artist in the entire world.

In 2001 Beyonce Knowles was made the face of cosmetic company L'oreal Paris. The company has been accused of 'whitewashing' the singers skin colour in a course of advertisement for the company in several magazines across the United States. One particular ad featured in September 2008 magazine editions of Essence, Elle and Allure Magazine in the US.

The New York post rebelled stating that the digital lightening made her virtually unrecognisable. Her image looked bleached out and photoshopped, however, L'Oreal maintained there was no lightening of the singers complex. They also spoke of their high valued relation with Beyonce and that the featured skin tone for the Feria hair colour campaign was not a fix or arranged look. The ad came across to many that only light skin women should die their hair blonde.

Beyonce skin is lighter in the campaign then the way she is used to being seen, advertisements and magazine editor must be aware and careful about this.

The adjustment of her skin attributed to the product she is advertising. Many accuse the company of making the singer look like a 'weird', white version of herself.

Face of Fashion

AGE

Isabella Rosellini modelled for cosmetic brand Lancome in 1982, she was involved in product development for the fragrance Tresor, in 1996 she was removed as the face on Lancome for being 'too old', since she was in her 40's at the time.
Kate Winslet modelled for cosmetic brand Lancome in 2011

Carmen Dell'orefice worked for Valentino at the age of 80, she is still fronting campaigns for luxury brands such as rolex and walking the runway for Gaultier, Galliano and Mugler. At Dell' orefice age many of her contemporaries are long forgotten or sadly decreased however, the legend herself has strutted her stuff for nearly 70 years starting at the age of 13.

SIZE

Sophie Dahl six foot, size 14 figure british model brought back the curves into Nineties fashion, mesmerised by designers such as Karl Lagerfeld and Jean-Paul Gaultier fifties look.

Beth Ditto size 28, in 2010 shows no shyness whilst posing naked for Love magazine, 'very curvy' kept Miss Ditto the lime light for

bigger women, from her previous stunt in 2007 for NME magazine.

47% of the UK women population are a size 16 and above
If you are a 8/10/12 you are considered a small size

Punk

In the early 70's Vivienne Westwood designed a t-shirt with a Swastika and Christ hanging upside down, which is very offensive towards the Jewish community and Christian community. These sorts of issues are forgotten in areas were disposable income is high, controversial promotions were not unusual in the 70's so punk and rock were categorised by their clothing, haircuts and objects.

Mod, Rock, Punk were the groups trying to outrank each other, look to find the most outrageous looks however in todays society youths are aware of the importance of good presentation and the power of trends.

Within the fashion industry culture is taken very seriously and the media would not accept that sort of offence like back in the 70's were their was a more independent look about fashion it represented an era.

Punk Vs Disco

Therefore these outrageous designs are no longer on the market, and designers are aware of the money that is accessible now,  people are interested in the high street trends, music and celebrities.
