Charles Frederick Worth 1825-1895 first job was working in London for a textile merchant before he moved to Paris in 1845, Versaille a sophisticated area in France. He was seen as the first fashion designer 140 years ago. Versaille is known as the fashion capital for Couture which was created by Charles Worth. He opened a dressmaking department in Gagelin, were his hand crafted, rich materials and luxurious embroidery labelled him 'The Father of Couture'. 







He won The great exhibition in London and the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1858. He created his own business where he was able to sell his lavishing trims which made his work so beautiful, his work defined the womans fashionable shape, removing ruffles and frills to more slimming and flattering garments gave him a huge client list. His designs were for a more middle class clients who were looking for a one of a kind/exclusive designs  





Charles Worth began to design entire wardrobes for the rich and famous against stage performers to big stars from evening wear, wedding dresses and ball gowns

He left his mark within fashion which is still used as an inspiration with todays designers and made paris an imperial capital. Couture Designs such as Dior, Chanel and Valentino stick to their heritage and influence of older designers. His work is still respected in the fashion industry and has influenced Couture designer Valentino in his more recent collection.
